Mali ramps up mango export capacity
The level of climate finance in the agricultural sector is very small compared with other sectors. Less than 5% of global climate finance is targeted to agricultural sector and, even much less to smallholder farmers. This is in contrast to the responsibility placed on agricultural sector to produce more food by 2050 under climatic uncertainties.
In Mali and Senegal, youth unemployment in rural areas is a key driver for urban migration and emigration to Europe. Low income, underutilisation of skills and low productivity are some of the problems that youth experience.
AfricaRice and the Technical Center for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) have decided to join forces to develop a joint project proposal aimed at developing job opportunities and creating sustainable businesses for young people in rural areas by actively involving them in improving rice value chains in Mali and Senegal.
